An amazing weekend ride including some of the best motorcycling roads in Romania and indeed Europe. Enjoy the Transfagarasan – the most crooked and challenging of Europe’s roads for motorcyclists and the Transalpina – one of the most spectacular roads of the Carpathian Mountains (2,145 m above sea level).
Welcome to Romania! You will be collected from Cluj Napoca at 08:00 and taken to Turda, where you will pick up your bike. You will then start with a morning ride to the town of Alba Iulia Citadel, a fortress with seven bulwarks and a star shaped citadel, common to Vauban fortresses.
Later in the day you will continue exploring Transalpina Highway. With its highest point at Urdele Pass at 2,145m in altitude, the road is also called the ‘King’s Road’ by the locals as it was built under the rule of King Carol II of Romania and rebuilt during World War II by German troops. Accommodation at the base of Transfagarasan Highway in a 3* Hotel.
Note: Given the early start, we recommend arriving in Cluj Napoca the evening before.
First thing today, you will tackle one of the highlights of the trip, and indeed one of the best motorcycling roads in Europe, the Transfagarasan Highway – the most crooked and challenging of Europe’s roads for motorcyclists. Built between 1970 and 1974 as a military route, by communist dictator Ceausescu (after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968) it snakes up into the Carpathian Mountains offering a great ride and enormous satisfaction on completion.
Later in the day you will have the chance to stop in Sibiu for a short relaxing walk in the medieval city. Then in the afternoon you will make your way back to Turda to drop off motorbikes. You will then be transferred back to Cluj Napoca, arriving there at about 18:00.
Note: Given the late arrival in Cluj Napoca, most of our clients tend to book a night’s accommodation there and leave the next morning.
